Another Month

Gadget time! Played around with the 'Wi-Drive' by Singapore starup, EDS Labs Pte Ltd recently. A portable wireless storage solution that allows either a 1.8"/2.5" hard drive. It also features a built in 802.11b/g WiFi adapter.

The Wi-Drive comes with a rechargeable battery that gives you two hours of continuous operation. It is a neat idea but unfortunately the 802.11g protocol carries a maximum speed of 54Mbps thus the poor transfer rates. Security is another thing to worry about as well.

Next up, we have the EZ-Rack by Topower. This Hot swap drive enclosure is for 3.5" Serial ATA hard drives and will fit into your 5.25" drive bay.

This rack makes full use of the hot swap/plug feature of SATA drives. You will be changing your hard drives like changing discs on your audio CD player. Please do make sure that your system supports hot swapping and most importantly Serial ATA. If it doesn't support hot swapping, turn off the power, change the drive and you are all set to go. A good product worth your $49.
